Wicket-type specialists

Friday 31 May 2013 -- 1:41pm

As is often the case, an interesting fact from the previous game sparks a thought from someone which turns into a blog post. Last match, Xavier took 4 wickets, all of which were bowled. It has never seemed that bowling batsmen out was a strength of his, but something must have gone right for this one week. Let's extract some stats.

Wicket droughts

Friday 15 February 2013 -- 4:12pm

Last year there was this post about the batters who had managed to go the longest between losing a wicket. Last week, one player suggested that perhaps he was getting close to a record for the bowling equivalent - claiming he had taken no wicket for the last 3 games (which would make at least 6 overs, and probably more than 50 balls). That's what this week's stat is...

Xavier was the player who questioned his own lack of wickets*, but a quick look at the last few scorecards shows that it has only two matches without a wicket. That's not really close to any records.

Stumpings and Negative-tens

Thursday 6 December 2012 -- 10:56pm

Last week's match brought about a few unusual things. Popped Collars made scores of 58, 56, 54 in their three skins. Brad and Xavier teamed up for a hat-trick of stumpings, and there were three other stumpings during the innings. And Popped Collars took a wicket on each of the three double-score balls, wiping 30 runs off the opposition's total. We also had a record-equaling 11th consecutive win.

Here is collection of quick stats about these intriguing numbers.

Wickets in a calendar year

Friday 30 November 2012 -- 2:00pm

In the natural follow up to last week's stats, we're doing "wickets in a calendar year" this time. An email to the team this week asked for some prediction in this category. The question was: 3 players have taken 100 wickets in a calendar year for the Popped Collars. 2 of them have done it twice, and the other has done it one. Who are these players?

An old post, and an older scorecard

Saturday 13 October 2012 -- 10:30am

A few intriguing questions and stats were proposed for the latest blog post. The one I choose to look at today is batting hat-tricks and consecutive wickets lost... if only because it gives me an excuse to share with you an olde indoor cricket memory of mine. Enjoy.

Outdoor Stats

Thursday 15 July 2010 -- 10:43am

This week's question sprouted from an email conversation about last weeks stats. People were getting stuck into their batting partners about strike farming, and Gareth decided that it's perfectly fine to claim more of the strike, so long as you are scoring plenty of runs from those balls. He therefore wanted to know about players' strike rates.

So let's check out strike rates, along with a few other stats that are usually associated with regular (outdoor) cricket, but have less meaning when examining the indoor version.

Gareth's self-confidence booster

Monday 5 July 2010 -- 5:06pm

The question of the week this week, was very simple. Gareth began by asking which bowlers had taken the most wickets for our team, and was disappointed to learn that Xavier and Brad led the way, simply because they have played the most games.

And so the question was refined: Which bowler has the most wickets per over?
